The Skinned Knee

fortdoberdale.com Posted on August 2, 2011 by HelenMay 9, 2017

Raven.  She’s one of a kind.
Here she is on top of my storage bin outside.
I’m surprised it didn’t collapse.

I took her in the back yard to practice last weekend.
She was in one of her manic moods.
She wouldn’t slow down enough to hear.
So I turned and walked away from her.
Then I tripped and slid.

I had picked up a 128 ounce plastic bottle I fill with water
and dish washing liquid on the way back to the door.
I use that to rinse off the pavers.
It’s a funny thing I remembered in the midst of this falling and sliding thing.
Maybe I should let go of the bottle.
I did and it helped.  I had an extra hand to brace my fall.
I was thankful not to be hurt other than a skinned knee.
I haven’t had one of those for years.
When I finally skidded to a stop, I called Raven over to me.
She came.
I told her to help me up.
She did.
(I tried not to choke her when I pulled myself up by her collar.)

She had one of those Raven smirks on her snoot all the while.
Sort of makes me want to laugh and scream at the same time.

In the Wee Small Hours of The Evening

fortdoberdale.com Posted on August 1, 2011 by HelenAugust 1, 2011

Last night, it’s 1:30 am.  I am doing what I usually do at that time, sleeping.   So suddenly, a thump and someone land’s on the bed and I hear this “I’m gonna puke” noise.  My dog decided to jump on MY bed to puke.  But I grab her collar and start pulling her off the bed, only I’m still lying down, and it’s really hard ’cause she don’t wanna move.  She’s like rock solid and has chosen the spot she wants to puke on.  And I’m thinking, no!  I am not going to change my bed at this time of night!   So I jump off the bed with my sheet and blanket, and I pull her off.  I then get some leverage and get her onto the linoleum, where she throws up a lot.  Her whole dinner!  And I think she’s done, so I let her go.

Nope!  She ain’t done.  And instead of staying there to finish, she runs into a crate, and pukes on the crate blanket in there way in the back!  I can’t tell you how unhappy I am with all of this.  Her whole dinner is up, and why?  Because once again, she ate a wad of towel paper.

I put her in a crate in the other room and sometime later in the night, she is crying to get out, so I take her out, and she has the shits.  I don’t know why the shits, but she has them.  I’m glad I put her in the crate, because she usually just shits on the runner by the door.  This morning I gave her bread for breakfast.  I am hoping this will settle things down inside.

Paw Prints

fortdoberdale.com Posted on July 31, 2011 by HelenMay 9, 2017

Last week I pulled out some clay and other accessories.

I made paw print art.

On the back, I dated and wrote the name of the dog the paw print belongs to.

It’s nice to have these.

The Termite: Mail Carrier

fortdoberdale.com Posted on July 30, 2011 by HelenJuly 31, 2011

Our mail is dropped through a slot in the door.
Mimi loves to pick it off the floor.
That’s fine.

It’s what she does to it when she gets it, that is a little annoying.

She did the same thing to my new bra.

Havahart Trap

fortdoberdale.com Posted on July 25, 2011 by HelenMay 9, 2017

A Bufo toad got caught in my Havahart trap.
They are hazardous to my dogs’ health.
I put the whole trap in a black trash bag.
And froze it for 3 days.
The humane way to euthanize reptiles.

The day came to remove the frozen specimen from the trap.
While I was taking care of that,
a Dobie walked by with a snake hanging out of his snout.

He took his time examining it.
After all, he’d been hunting for it
in some tall grass for quite some time.

I had to pick it up finally.
This is not a favorite chore of mine.

And when I turned around to get back to the frozen toad,
a Dobie was thinking about tasting it.

Where are those eyes in the back of my head?

THEN

I found this baby rat in my Havahart trap on Friday.
I’ve been feeding and watering it all weekend.
I released it today.
Somewhere else.

SuperDobe!

fortdoberdale.com Posted on July 24, 2011 by HelenJuly 24, 2011

A new leather collar came in the mail yesterday.
This is my first-time order from Ella’s Lead.
It’s spectacular!
“Up up and away!”

“I’m watching out for you.”

“So am I cute or what?”

Mouths

fortdoberdale.com Posted on July 19, 2011 by HelenJuly 17, 2011

“Me?  No. I don’t have pine cones in my mouth.”

“Me?  I want that green ball, so I can put it in my mouth.”

Butterfly

fortdoberdale.com Posted on July 18, 2011 by HelenJuly 17, 2011

I took these pictures of this butterfly back on June 30 of this year, 2011.
She was laying eggs on the citrus tree leaves.
What an elegant creation!

Her wings flow like a beautiful fabric in the wind.

Time for a change in direction.

My Lucky Feather

fortdoberdale.com Posted on July 17, 2011 by HelenJuly 17, 2011

I found this feather.
It had been implanted in the ground of my backyard.

Luigi sniffed it.

Then I put it in the house.
It is now my lucky feather.
